The purpose of the State Service for the Protection of the Historical Environment is the preservation, study, popularization and use of state-owned historical, archaeological, architectural immovable monuments, the historical and natural environment, landscapes, and other cultural values.
The SNCO includes six regional state services (Shushi, Hadrut, Kashatagh, Askeran, Martuni, Martakert), as well as four reserves (“Tigranakert” Historical and Cultural Reserve, “Hunot Canyon” Natural and Historical Reserve, “Azokh Cave” State Nature Reserve) . historical reserve “Tog Melikakan Aparank” state historical and cultural reserve).
At present, Hadrut, Kashatagh, Karvachar regions and, unfortunately, all the reserves are occupied by Azerbaijan.
